Tenant Level Checkpointing of Meta-data for Multi-tenancy SaaS

    Get PDF
Traditional checkpointing techniques are facing a grave challenge when applied to multi-tenancy software-as-a-service (SaaS) systems due to the huge scale of the system state and the diversity of users' requirements on the quality of services. This paper proposes the notion of tenant level checkpointing and an algorithm that exploits Big Data techniques to checkpoint tenant's meta-data, which are widely used in configuring SaaS for tenant-specific features. The paper presents a prototype implementation of the proposed technique using NoSQL database Couchbase and reports the experiments that compare it with traditional implementation of checkpointing using file systems. Experiments show that the Big Data approach has a significantly lower latency in comparison with the traditional approach

Multifunctional Nanoparticles for Imaging Guided Interventions

    Get PDF
We describe multifunctional magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) encapsulated in thermosensitive, drug-bearing shells and delivered to the tumor site by genetically modified and non-pathogenic strains of bacteria with known affinity to tumors for an effective and minimally invasive protocol for tumor management. The magnetic nanoparticles also serve as a non-invasive imaging contrast agent, heating agent as well as thermometry monitoring agents. We have shown an efficient tumor management on a mouse model utilizing the MNPs. Our studies showed that these novel MNPs significantly reduce the progress of tumor and prolong the animal life and function as an imaging contrast to visually monitor the tumor treatment and evolution

Intellectual cultivation: Quranic perspective in light of Surat Al-Kahf

    Get PDF
This article attempts to explore the Quranic instructions that contribute to intellectual growth. Intellectual cultivation is the process of developing our mental capacity in order to make sense of things and comprehend them on a deeper level. The inductive method and the analytical method will be used to study and categorize the Quranic guidelines found in Surat al-Kahf that if implemented will empower a person’s critical thinking. The study shows that the believer is distinguished with a clear awareness, thought, and vision of the reality of life and its occurrences. The research will also discuss the role of reflection and other spiritual practices such as Dhikr (remembering Allah), khalwa (meditating in solitude), shukr (gratitude) in the enhancement of our intellectuality and spiritual awareness

Big SaaS: The Next Step Beyond Big Data

    Get PDF
Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is a model of cloud computing in which software functions are delivered to the users as services. The past few years have witnessed its global flourishing. In the foreseeable future, SaaS applications will integrate with the Internet of Things, Mobile Computing, Big Data, Wireless Sensor Networks, and many other computing and communication technologies to deliver customizable intelligent services to a vast population. This will give rise to an era of what we call Big SaaS systems of unprecedented complexity and scale. They will have huge numbers of tenants/users interrelated in complex ways. The code will be complex too and require Big Data but provide great value to the customer. With these benefits come great societal risks, however, and there are other drawbacks and challenges. For example, it is difficult to ensure the quality of data and metadata obtained from crowdsourcing and to maintain the integrity of conceptual model. Big SaaS applications will also need to evolve continuously. This paper will discuss how to address these challenges at all stages of the software lifecycle

Outcomes of Transcutaneous Aortic Valve Replacement among high risk WV sample population.

Introduction:Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a relatively new strategy for replacing the aortic valve. We elected to review our early experience to see if we could identify clinical characteristics at baseline or immediately following the procedure that would predict death within one year. Methods:Charts for all patients assigned to receive TAVR procedure at St Mary’s medical center, Huntington, West Virginia between April, 2013 till November, 2016 were identified and reviewed. A total of seventy-two (72) cases were included. Results: All cause mortality rate at index hospitalization, 30 days, and 12 months was 5.6%(N=4), 6.9%(N=5), 19.4%(N=14) respectively. Stroke rate at index hospitalization, 30 days, and 12 months was 2.8%(N=2), 2.8%(N=2), 8.3%(N=6) respectively. Major predictors of death were post procedure GFR, Contrast volume, and number of antiplatelet agents therapy (AUC= 0.638, 0.632, 0.637 respectively). Conclusion: We found that post procedure GFR, less number of antiplatelet agents post procedure, and contrast volume may predict mortality within first 12 months post TAVR. Further studies focused on the above factors may be warranted

This study aims to explore the various changes that occurred in the banking and financial industry, espiscally how e-banking has concurred the financial industry. It is also important to note how these changes affected customer satisfaction, while also keeping in mind the differences between traditional banking and e-banking, as well as the obstacles that each sector faces, and the benefits that each sector has to offer. The researcher explained the concept of adopting digital banking tools, achieving customer satisfaction, and showcasing the different points of view regarding these two concepts. In addition, the researcher clarified the most important dimensions and indicators for measuring the level of adopting online banking tools and achieving customer satisfaction. This study finds that there is a correlation between the various banking tools and their impact on customer satisfaction, i.e. the  consumer behavior depends on various factors that differ by several circumstances. The study recommends the need to keep up with the latest banking tools and constantly upgrade their security systems

Late-Term Complications of COVID-19: Retropharyngeal Infection and Myocarditis in a 26-Year-Old Patient

Deep neck space infection and viral myocarditis related to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have both been described in the medical literature. However, there are only three reported cases of retropharyngeal infection as a presenting pathology in the setting of COVID-19.A 26-year-old woman presented to the emergency room with fever and neck swelling and pain 1 month after COVID-19 infection. A computed tomography scan of the neck demonstrated tonsillitis with retropharyngeal infection. She was also found to have heart failure with an ejection fraction (EF) of <20% due to acute myocarditis. Her infection resolved and the EF improved to 40% prior to discharge. Our case is the first to describe retropharyngeal infection as a late complication in an adult with a history of COVID-19 several weeks previously. It also presented a clinical challenge in terms of tailoring goal-directed medical therapy to manage severe left ventricular dysfunction caused by myocarditis

The adjusted empirical Lorenz curve using a cubic spline interpolation formula

A Cubic spline interpolation formula is proposed to estimate the quantile function found in the functional form of the Adjusted Lorenz curve proposed by Al-Hussainan (2000) to estimate its theoretical counterpart. This procedure makes, yet, another option of quantile estimation available to the use of the adjusted Lorenz curv
